Got hit on Friday night when a driver reversed straight into my back wheel.

Said he didnt see me, this is despite the fact I was stationary ,was wearing hi viz jacket and Im 17+ stone. Its like failing to see Big Bird.

He jumped out of his car, looked at my bike said sorry and offered me £100. I looked at my bike saw I only needed a new wheel so I took it. To be honest doubt bike is worth £100 now.

New wheel for my old hybrid £30. £70 up on the deal.

So not all bad.

Be sure to get the headset and forks checked out!! The pressure of the car could displace or fold the forks back.

Seems harsh. I think you should be partially responsible for trying to cycle backwards when on a public road.

Definitely get the bike checked over, I got hit on the back wheel last Monday and the car damaged the seat stay which was only spotted by the lbs the next day, bike a write off.

Most likely he cant be bothered and £100 is a cheap fix rather than getting the insurance involved and waste everyone's time. Excess on his insurance is likely above £100 to start with.
I would do the same in the drivers position.

ive had the bike on the stand and had a good look. He wasnt goin that fast. Pretty sure no damage. Rode it this morning. No problem. better in fact with the new wheel. It's only my old commuter bike.

So im happy.

The road he was on only comes from a pub. Nuff said.

Just invested the money in a couple of pints of Oakham ale

Great investment. Very nice.

Hmm wonder if said pub and driver should be tipped off to the Police..? Just in case...

TBH i cant be bothered. I'm not a vindictive bloke. He was OK gave me £100 i'm quids in.

Too many of the people on here look at it as a them and us thing. I dont.

Nobody is saying its "us vs them" (mainly because we ARE them in many respects), but it is very odd behaviour to throw money at a rider like that, even very odd to manage to hit a perfectly visible being.
