Hiya, I'm Keith and I'm new to this forum
I'm from Newcastle, living in North Tyneside and soon to be moving to the Whitley Bay/Monkseaton area. I thought I'd register and say hello.
My workplace have recently offered an opportunity to "obtain" a bike under the cycle scheme and I've taken them up on it. I've been thinking for quite some time that I would like to take up cycling to improve my general fitness and to ease my guilt for doing my 4 mile daily commute by car.
I've chosen the Specialized Crosstrail Sport which I should receive in early Jan. I couldn't find much in the way of reviews online but after trying the bike it felt fantastic. My daily commute will be completed mostly by cycle path but there are a few loose gravel tram tracks which I'll be negotiating. Road bikes scare me, mountain bike seemed like overkill for the route so the Crosstrail felt like a good... ermm, hybrid!
I have some cycling experience from my teens, atleast before I went off to Uni, learnt to drive and subsequently became relatively unfit! I'm a little bit anxious about any time spent on the road with motorists but I should be able to keep this to a minimum until I'm more confident.
My father is very active (puts me to shame!) and we've spoke of my intention to take up cycling. We've decided between us that as a target for next year we will be gunning for the 140mile Whitehaven to Tynemouth C2C over 3 days. Holy hell I'm worried already! Atleast I have a goal now to work towards (haha!).
Thanks for reading!
