First ever bike build, and today my first exciting package from CRC so that I can start assembly.

I bought a BB, a headset and a stem.

The stem's too wide and the BB is for a road bike, not a MTB.
Hopeully the headset's Ok once I've read up on how to fit it ;)

Ho hum.....

Thank you ;)

The BB is actually a 73mm but the width across my frame is 68mm. Its just that according to the enclosed instructions, that model BB is designed for road and XC whereas the bike is (or will be) an all-mountain.

Opps, the good thing is from here on out it's almost certainly going to get better ;). Don't get discouraged though, keep on going on & you'll get there in the end. You'll probably learn a lot as well, not to mention there's a certain sense of accomplishment in completing something like a bike build.

EDIT: maybe worth getting some Vernier Calipers & less importantly Screw Pitch Gauges.

That's the main point really. Even in my ZINN book, I fall into the catergory whereby I'd be better off getting the shop to do it but I want to learn how to do things myself so that when something does break on the trail, at least I'll know what I've broken if not how to fix it

It'll be a big improvement on taking it to the bike shop and trying to explain which clicky thing or springy thing I've snapped off this time ;)

What are you building Panter? We can compare notes about steerer cutting as the time draws nearer.

Dont be discouraged by it. My first build was a disaster :biggrin: still rideable though.
