Would people buy Assos kit if it was dirt cheap?

I buy the bib shorts even though they are the most expensive item of ANY clothing I own. Last pair lasted 6 years before the lycra became see-through, so I now where those under my bib longs which don't have padding. Bought new bib shorts this summer for an astronomical sum but the fit and comfort is superb.

I haven't bought any other Assos kit but I am beginning to think about a winter jacket of some sort.

By my reckoning a pair of Assos shorts costs me about £25 per year. Great value.

Last year there was a discussion on here about Assos and wiggle - IIRC wiggle were not an authorised Assos dealer...

I'm not sure I can follow Assos lady...

But, I have to add that this issue has been annoying me since I realised what was going on - I buy a lot from Wiggle (far too much actually). Some time over the weekend, Wiggle removed from its site every piece of Assos stock and any mention of the brand -- and it obviously did so because of its discount vouchers. The proof of that was when it all magically reappeared today -- the vouchers expired last night.

Rather than being open with its customers and excluding the brand from the discount (a reasonable thing to do), it opted to remove any and all mention of the word Assos from its site (even on the pull-down menu of brands) and suddenly pretend it doesn't stock the brand. Really wasn't impressed with how they handled that.

And yes, there's no denying that Assos is overpriced...but Assos shorts are far better than anything I've ever tried. Lots of people talk about their longevity and I hope that to be true, but it was their legendary comfort and fit that made me part with my hard-earned. Since trying them 18months ago, I've bought a second pair, and a pair of Roubaix 3/4s - there's absolutely no question I'd pay the Assos premium. And hey, we all like a bit of indulgence from time to time, when it comes to cycling gear right? But back to the reason for the rant, a 20% discount voucher makes the Assos premium that bit easier to stomach.

PaulSB was right about the clothes going "see-through" after a while. They could have given the poor girl a new pair to model for the photo shoot.

Firstly, welcome DoaB.

What you suggest is obviously possible though I personally would have thought it easier to just exclude Assos from the scheme in the t&c (as you also mentioned). Though perhaps it's not that easy to monitor/regulate, and perhaps their check-out systems can't handle excluding items from discount.

Whatever, either way, I feel it's completely legitimate of Wiggle to do this (all's fair in love and business!)- as understandably frustrating as it is to someone wanting to buy cheap(er) Assos kit!

I share your opinions of Assos btw. Great kit but expensive.

I contacted them today, and the response back from then was laughable, they must employ kids in their customer services!
