Hoarding - to what degree do you hoard?

My wife reckons that without her influence I'd appear on a TV program dedicated to hoarders. I don't agree but recognise that my chattels are somewhat eclectic:

A shedful of aeromodelling stuff.
A garage full of bikes, stationary engines, motor bike and a Leeds Whitehall Road station sign
A cupboardful of model railway, aeromodelling and computer magazines
A collection of paraffin blow lamps, tilley lamps and camping stoves

I don't reckon that the above constitutes a hoard. I can still get into the garage and my shed and I'm not actively adding to their contents though I am on the look out for a v-twin motor bike and a Bates Cantiflex bike.

What have you got that borders on hoarding?

Well, materials for my craft projects - as I work with 'rubbish' like old bike tyres and umbrellas, I tend to collect it when I find it, even if I'm not ready to do any making just yet. I'm a sucker for bits of coloured paper or card or fabric, just in case they come in handy one day. I do think that unchecked, I could turn into a serious hoarder. My grandma was pretty good at it towards the end of her life, so I've got the gene.

I don't class it as hoarding but I do keep a lot of stuff from the diy/renovation/demolition work that I do around the house - just in the event that I can use it again.... or 'recycle' as I defend it as! The garage and shed is full of wood, bricks, brackets, hinges, bolts, screws, etc etc etc. I do reuse stuff though, either in rebuilding or simply as landscaping in the garden.

On a personal level, I do keep stuff (bank statements, correspondence, etc) maybe too long before having clear outs. And I do have a dislike of throwing stuff out if I think it may come in useful again. So I have used bike parts, old torches, bike lights, even clothes that I could, in all honesty, get rid of. I consider that normal though

I'm quite bad with computer and bike spares, I have a few boxes of each, but they do come in useful. I also tend to buy bike stuff in advance if I see really good prices, like I got a Charge Spoon for £9.99 last week and 6 pairs of disc brake pads at 80% discount a couple of months ago, which are all sat waiting to be used. I tend to keep old parts when I upgrade too, just incase anything breaks - it's kind of a habit from not having enough spare cash for expensive repairs and not liking my bike or computer out of action for any amount of time.

When I moved in January I found stuff in the loft of the old house that I'd forgotten I owned. It was such a pain to get it all down and get rid of it that I've made a vow not to store anything in a loft ever again - haven't even been up in the loft of the new house yet.

and when you do, you will probably find stuff left by the previous occupants:thumbsup:

I do not trust computers not to loose my CD's so much to Mr Summerday's disgust I like the physical copy of the music. I also keep things for sentimental reasons, in case they come in useful etc. I am hopeless at having a sort out and just aim to remove a small part in any one clear out. I've got old bike bits, china, photos, paperwork (even some old school books - who knows why!). I've got clothes from 10 years ago that I still wear and then some stuff from more recently (seems to be a different weight distribution) that doesn't fit but I keep hoping that I will get back into.
