Hoarding - to what degree do you hoard?

My wife is terrible for it. I was taking my old bass amp to the tip recently, as it is beyond repair and I don't play anymore, but my wife insisted that we must keep it because 'we could turn it into a really interesting table or something'.

It now sits in the garage with all my lubes and cleaning products on.

Nothing. My "rough rule" is if it's not been used for 6 months or more then it goes to the charity shop.
I kind of do that too.
If its not been used in 6 months it gets packed up and it goes in the loft, if its not been missed after 6 months then it gets freecycled/charity shopped/gumtreed etc. This does not include bike stuff though.

Boxes, having a hobby that involves collecting things, where the boxes add value (or are as interesting and as much a part of the overall enjoyment as the item itself), I have a lot of boxes.

I've got a box of books and stuff in a cardboard box at work that I took with me on my first day there. I've been there nearly ten years now and have walked by it every working day since and never used them. I think it may be time to bin them.

I do not trust computers not to loose my CD's so much to Mr Summerday's disgust I like the physical copy of the music. I also keep things for sentimental reasons, in case they come in useful etc. I am hopeless at having a sort out and just aim to remove a small part in any one clear out. I've got old bike bits, china, photos, paperwork (even some old school books - who knows why!). I've got clothes from 10 years ago that I still wear and then some stuff from more recently (seems to be a different weight distribution) that doesn't fit but I keep hoping that I will get back into.
clothes from only 10 years ago ?? I have stuff from the late 80s that I'm still wearing

Although, I do still have clothes in my wardrobe that have not fitted me for 4 or so years - I shall eventually have to admit I'll never be lithe and fit again...

I don't hoard a great deal, but it sure looks that way.

I have a drawer full of BFOs....."bits fallen off". These are mysterious small things that I find in the house/workshop that look faintly familiar, previously attached to a gizmo of some kind. Weird bits of plastic and metal etc.

I don't think I've ever re-united any of them. They get chucked after about two years.
I have stuff from the 80s that I would still wear if I could, but they appear to have unaccountably shrunk.
Me too but my younger son cherishes my Led Zepplin t-shirts bought at Knebworth.

Surely I was never as thin as him!

OK!

Which one of you saves the cardboard boxes that come with your gadgets? "Save the packaging in the unlikely event of having to return it to us".

My loft is full of junk, FFS. Why do I need your empty boxes? Boxes go after a week cluttering up the house. Into a recycling bin if I'm feeling saintly.

If I applied a 6/12 month rule then I'd have to donate half of my body to medical science while I am still alive!

I have been a bit of a hoarder over the years but decided to fight it. For example, I had every issue of both Cycling Plus and Cycle Sport magazines - hundreds of issues. I forced myself to chuck all but the the previous 12 month's worth in the recycling bag. Every now and then I repurge the magazine collection, something which needs doing now because I have about 2 years worth again.
