Hello,
Can anyone help me with estimating the year of manufacture of my Holdsworth please? I am trying to value it in preparation to sell. I’m attaching pictures of the serial number. Thanks in advance

A few pictures of the complete bike would be helpful.

If you could post some decent pictures of the entire bike that might not only help us date it, but possibly help in giving you a ball park figure.

It's a 6 digit frame number, so from the later period of production, 1976-1984ish. It'll begin with a 3 (the numbers never went high enough to begin with an 8) so circa 1981 is your answer.

Thanks all for replying. I can add more pictures if it was helpful. The frame is Holdsworth Criterium. Magority of components are Campagnolo. I am not sure if the colour is original.
I’ve not got much knowledge about bikes so will be grateful for all the input. I would love the bike to go to someone who will show it love. It was built for me as a gift long time ago and I had some great cycles on it but I don’t use it often enough anymore:sad:.

That looks like a Falcon from the time they bought the Holdsworth name so is it 90's? At the beginning of the year maybe £40 but at the moment who knows?...

I'm sticking with early 80's, 1981 +/-1. Some people will look down their noses at 501, but that grade of Cromo (as well as 4130) has every similar mechanical properties to 531, so in terms of function and weight there is naff all in it. It wasn't really inferior, but because it was cheaper to produce the asking price was less and the brain-dead simply presume it's therefore somehow inferior.

It looks original, largely unmasked with and in reasonable order. The headset is STX, which was only made for the 1995 model year (it became STX-RC in 1996 and was dropped altogether in 1997), and while it could be used on anything it was marketed as an MTB component range, so that is without a shadow of a doubt a later addition.

The market is in a state of flux with the recent demand for anything usable for under 400 quid going through the roof, but I'd guess at 200 sheets, accept no lower than £175. @biggs682 has more experience of buying and selling in the classic market than me so he may be able to give a better idea.

Thanks so much for taking the time to share your knowledge contacts. Very helpful! I was pretty sure the frame wasn't manufactured as late as the 90s. The bike needs very little done to it to be taken back on the road. Thanks again:smile:

I don't think I can add much more .
To some people the campagnolo bits are worth more than the complete bike .
For me I would just enjoy it for what it is .
Value wise I would suggest £150 upwards would be fair but sure someone else will come along and say more
