I didn't know running shoes were a thing until I tried running the other week and was told afterwards that when on concrete trainers were not good enough to avoid ending up a tad sore.

I bought some and tested them for the first time yesterday.

What on earth are these big holes? Are all running shoes like this? Do I just have to be careful where I step?

If there proper running shoes there good for the track only as probably very soft rubber. Different types of trainers have own areas of use. IE. Trail, cross country. Road or pavement pounding. Personally the soles of those look like neoprene foam as used on slippers.

Are those Ecco shoes. I was bought some of their shoes from our local designer outlet and they split across the sole. I took them to a local cobbler to see if they could be repaired. who said I must have had them for a quite a while. When I said not, he said then they are old stock as the rubber has perished.

They don’t look good. That’s after 1 run? Take them back.

I have only used ASICS for over 15 years now. ( not the same pair) Other decent running shoes are available. But I know that they work for me, and the soles have never fallen apart.

I'm a big fan of Echo shoes and never really had any issues. They wear very well for me (I walk a four mile round trip to work and tend to walk everywhere in town).

I'm interested if they were able to repair them? One of my pairs currently has holes in the sole due to ear and I was pondering if it was worthwhile taking them to the cobbler or not.

Ali express special?

No, ebay, "bought-and-never-used".

They are ecco. "Goretex lined"; I thought they were fancy.

Good morning,

Ecco tend to have model names for shoes such as Golf or Biom, do you know or can do a web search for these shoes.

Knowing this won’t mend the soles but might give an inkling on what has gone wrong.

The reason I ask is that the soles look very simple for a modern running shoe.

It is hard to tell though as marketing in running shoes is way more advanced than in cycling!

There is one school of thought that says shoes should be almost non-existent and resemble bare foot running. The other end of the scale is huge amounts of padding to prevent over/under pronation and end up with a “perfect” running style.

Yet even that level of hype doesn’t go for a single use shoe. :-)

To me that looks like polyurethane soles. These soles perish after a few years under certain humidity conditions. I can't remember if it is high or low humidity that makes them rot. To confirm, walk around the house with them and if you find bits of rubber everywhere, that's the issue. They can't be repaired.
