Hello,
Can anyone recommend any areas for a holiday in the UK, which have plenty of good cycling, mtb trails or cycle paths/routes on tarmac?

Ideally needs to be on the coast, and have a decent campsite in that area.

Just fancy a change from Snowdonia, and Oban.

Yorkshire Dales (although that doesn't help with the coast part!) or Northumberland. The latter is a much overlooked part of the country- Kielder is especially good for off road stuff and there are loads of country lanes with not much traffic. Probably a (little bit) warmer than Oban as well!

The area around Llandulas/Prestatyn/Llandudno is right on NCN5, which is a pretty good route. There are a couple of decent traffic free routes in Devon too, although I'm not sure I'd fancy the roads around them very much (narrow stuff that gets driven way too fast, ime).

@huwsparky - I didn't take a bike, but I've holidayed a few times in & around Llangrannog - what a beautiful part of the world that bit of coast around there is.

Dumfries and Galloway - fantastic cycling roads, beautiful varied countryside, nice villages and tea rooms, excellent mtb routes and 5 of the 7Stanes mtb trail centres. Loads of nice campsites.
Speyside - busier than D&G, not so many good roads for cycling, but truly spectacular scenery, loads of mtb trails, amazing wildlife.

+1 for D&G - not done it myself, but a couple of lads at work spent a week cycling up there last summer and came back raving about how good it was.

I'd be interested in any thoughts about the North Northumberland coast area (Beadnell / Seahouses / Bamburgh, etc) - got a week up there soon and wondering if I should take the bike..?

I've just come back from Northumberland and I'd highly recommend it much quieter than the Dales. I had a great ride through Elsden and up over the Otterburn Ranges, barely saw a car in the 2 hours I was out.
I'll be taking the mtb up to Kielder forest too
