Ok I'm going to put forward Bristol as a suggestion. Great Mtb trails in Leigh woods and Ashton court. With easy access to open trails on the Mendips. Great cycle routes through the city and the Bristol to Bath cycle path linking up with canal tow paths and other routes out of Bath. Cycle path access to Portishead, and easy cycling access to Clever and Weston Super Mare.

I go to the Back Isle just north of Inverness and stay at Rosemarkie C & CC site. There is a ridge along the top which means a bit of climbing some of which is 2foot gear but generally reasonable roads and lots of small roads and good views. Cromarty Bakery can be recommended.

weve a caravan in North Wales , so thats why im looking else where just for a change of scenery.

Check out Carmarthenshire, miles of nice roads, probably one of the best counties for traffic free trails and MTB in the forests including coastal rides on traffic free routes.

Devon.
Choice of north or south coast to be near the sea. Dartmoor and Exmoor between the coasts. And plenty of hills.
Probably no shortage of campsites (but have no knowledge of this accommodation!).
The coastal areas can be very busy and the B1340 is plagued with utter morons from newcastle who are trying to drive their beamers as fast as possible. But come a bit in land and there is some wonderful cycling on near deserted roads.

Give me a distance / ascent and I will pick you out a route of quality.
Thanks - I hadn't noticed the road number before, but I've driven that one a few times from Alnwick up to Beadnell and there do seem to be a lot of people in an awful hurry on it. I've sent you a PM to avoid hijacking the thread :okay:

Yes, fabulous cycling - Devon's got 8000 miles of roads, and some great tarmacked trails (Exe Estuary, Granite Way, Two Moors Way, Tarka Trail etc.), though the coast is very lumpy in parts. One day I'll do the circumnavigation: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/10741476
