It doesn't work for me. The one time we went with friends was when our girl and their kids were all young, and if the kids weren't falling out, then the adults were failing to agree on where to eat, as various permutations of the group didn't eat various things. Oh, and if you did all agree on somewhere to eat, trying to find a table for 8 usually caused a bit of bother, in the height of holiday season in a seaside town....
Nowadays, Mrs Salad and I just like a decent walk, followed by coffee and perhaps a cake or a sandwich, then maybe a bus back to wherever the campervan is parked up. Then collapse for the rest of the day and read a book, or maybe tackle a sudoku puzzle. Bliss!
