Wonder what it's like with Tennent's Super.

You won't care after a couple of slices of toast

In a bread maker or by hand ?
Bread Maker, although her new mixer came with a 'Bread hook' so we may try making bread conventionally

Also to these people who think adding beer is worthwhile just remember that Alcohol will 'kill' the yeast (as it is a waste product of yeast)

In the summer during our courgette glut, I used grated courgette instead of the liquid. I made quite a nice bread with a crunchy crust though it seemed to go soft after a day or two.

It's a bit more complicated than that...
I was in a cafe yesterday with Guinness cake on offer. Unfortunately I just didn't fancy cake at the time.

All I can say is out of 2 loaves using beer both have risen perfectly and been the nicest yet.

Any suggestions (for bread makers) appreciated.

Do you put a teaspoon of sugar in your bread? If you want a malty, caramely flavour to your bread, substitute a heaped teaspoon of treacle for the sugar. Put the teaspoon with treacle in the measuring jug, cover, just, with boiling water and stir to dissolve. Then add cold water up to the amount needed for your recipe.

Very tasty.

Yep it will but not with too strong a beer, you want a flavoursome ale but not too 'strong' and if it is a 'live' beer all the better (I'd look for a 'Bottle Conditioned' beer like Worthington White Shield)

Right......thanks.
I used 5% Speckled Hen then 5% Abbot Ale

Just cottoned on to this bread making malarkey, my MiL had upgraded her machine so we got her old one a few months back. It's been brilliant, way better than the standard supermarket fayre. Haven't tried anything adventurous yet, just experimenting with different flours and leaving the salt out. Up until now it's just been my wife making it, today I had a go for the first time, it was a success. Yes it's so simple even I can manage it
