Tbh, I've not discussed it, we've got guests. Guests who Sri k lots of alcohol, so I'll get her pis**d before raising the subject.

Mate of mine faced a similar dilemma.

He is a traditional north east man and his wife controls the money in the household, even though they both work.

He was sent to the corner shop for a few bits of pieces with a Lottery ticket from his wife - he assumed it was a £10 win.

On cashing the ticket, he got about £80.

Dilemma: keep the extra as spending/beer money his wife didn't know about or fess up.

After wrestling with the problem all the way home, he fessed up.

One reason was he wasn't 100 per cent sure his wife didn't know there was more money on the ticket.

She didn't.

My dad was the same.hard working self employed bloke.During the 60's his treat was a 5/- (five shillings) bet.He never smoked he hated beer it made him ill when he did try it.That five bob was his entertainment ,cheap at the price.He always treated us when he won.He once bought me a blue football shirt,because he liked Everton Fc,he watched the harse racing on Grandstand then went to collect his winnings,before shopping in Leeds market right at the end,when stalls did bulk cheap bargains,fruit and meat.10p for a tray of plums or a bag of oranges.Great times.

I would address the rather large elephant in the room first.

I think you may be setting a precedent so be careful.
Does the stake come out of your pocket money?
If the answer is yes then that's where the winnings belong.
If the risk is shared then so should the winnings be - it is that simple.

Same couple pay their mortgage in cash each month and would never have a credit card - if you haven't got the money, you don't have it.

I admire them, money - usually lack of it - is one of the main causes of argument in a marriage.

None of that rubbish in this house, I wear the trousers! The trousers that my wife says I can wear. You'd not necessarily be able to see this if you visited as they are generally hidden by my apron or obscured by the ironing board I'm standing behind.
