We should know soon enough.

I will let you all know how it goes, hopefully it being a mixed bag of slots not just "Stand up" should work in my favour.....

Of course, you could lie through your teeth on here and say that it was amazing, fantastic, brilliant, you had them rolling in the aisles, you got a standing ovation, etc etc. We will never know!

Good luck, hope it goes well.

Didn't @Moon bunny do something similar? You could get some tips from her.

I did indeed. At least Simon has been in front of an audience before, which can only help. Advice?
1: Do not drink. It dims your wits, you really do need to be "so sharp you could cut yourself".
2: Remember the audience are wanting to be entertained, so keep them on your side.
3: Have you run your piece past someone you can trust to be honest? They could easily spot something wrong with it that you missed.
4: Have the car waiting outside, with the driver in his seat and the engine running...
5: Do not sign up with the first agent who comes up to you...
After the first gig I did I was put in touch with a good comedy agent by my brother's band's agency which had got me that first wedding and later admitted that he was out of his depth when asked for a comedian at such short notice. I really enjoyed the short course I did, a good one will guide you and emphasise your natural talent rather than make you look like a "done the course" wannabe. Now as a "bottom of the ladder" comedienne I really enjoy the gigs I do and have made some great friends.
I will not be going to Edinburgh.

Thanks Moonbunny some good advice there..... Staying sober as I'm driving to 'gig' and ran past my mum and a member of staff at work so hopefully it will be okay, but the appointed time is fast approaching and I'm beginning to get a bit nervous now

it is not normal to not be nervous, part of the skill is controlling the nerves. Remember that the easy way to cock-up a performance is to be scared of cocking it up and so making a half-hearted mumbling attempt.

Thanks for all the good luck messages (and special thanks to Moon bunny for some good advice)

I think it well, it was a mixed bag of performances, most people read their work of dramatic prose and funny poems only one other person performed without notes, I got laughs in what I think were right places and a few people sort me out at the end to say they liked it and admired my nerve...... and the host asked me if I would consider performing it at a different venues spoken word night as he would like to see a bit more stand up there, so ...... next Friday I might be doing it all over again!
