D-lock through the frame and stand, with a cable round the frame, stand and back wheel? I'm struggling to see what's so bad with the locking techniques here.

Because maybe its just my OCD but i prefer to lock my bike like this

Or

and have a cable going through the front wheel, looped around the frame once and secured with the D-Lock which is going through the wheel and the frame. What the owner of the bike in question has done is made the lock more susceptible to blunt force attacks from above to break it. Im not sure what brand of lock it is, but it looks like a Kryptonite Kryptolok which is probably a little stronger than that of your average random run of the mill cheap D-Lock you can get from argos or halfords.

Cables are more of a deterrent anyway imo - If a thief wanted to cut through it they would do quite easily.

I dont claim to be an expert in such things, but my bike is always there where i locked it when its time for the long ride home so i must be doing something right. I have a Kryptonite New York and some cheap arse bike hut cable. I also work in the security industry so I know if people are going to steal stuff - theyre gonna steal stuff and it dont matter if its locked underground in some concrete bunker - always some smartass gonna try tunneling through and stealing sh** if they think its worth it.

::EDIT::

At least if the thief attempted to yank the bike hard like in the video above that glenn posted it would wreck the wheels, damage the frame and totally make it unrideable

Like your reply added any extra value?
Gave me the chance to point out how pointless yours was so for me it was invaluable.
Think about what you post beforehand. If you want to pass on your knowledge then go ahead but to say he deserves to have his bike knicked because he isn't as good as you at locking it. That's just silly.

I read everything. The explanation of your method etc. doesn't detract from the silliness of your original post imo.
