Now perhaps oddly, I like the anonymity offered by samey hotel rooms (and shopping malls, department stores etc, but that's another story). There's something comforting about being just another sales unit for the management accountants when reviewing the occupancy revenues. I judge hotel rooms by the quality (or should that be presence or absence?) of the biscuits. And those little bottles of shampoo are useful (for those with hair) when cycle touring.

Ibis rooms look the same wherever they may be.

I have my favourite rooms in several of the hotels I visit regularly; after many stays I've worked out where the biggest and quietest rooms are located.
