first M&S got rid of bike cover, and now the AA have done the same

does anyone know what house contents insurance covers bicycles as standard, preferably to at least £1000 per bike (I have 5 bikes)?

cheers

It's going back 8 years but I had cover with Co-Op that suited my needs at the time. It covered the bike away from home too (theft at cake stop).

At lot has happened since then though, not least to the Co-Op!

NFU cover up to £1000+ I think. Can't remember. No extra if in the garage. Covered away from home also I THINK free. You will have to check. I don't think they are on comparison sites.

Co-op one year increased my premiums by 30% but wouldn't tell me why, only its because of your post code?? Couldn't get them to tell me why my postcode was suddenly more expensive to insure. Happened about 7 years ago.

Not covered away from the home for free, but the costs are very reasonable. When we took our insurance out a few years ago bikes were covered upto £1k, & since purchasing a couple of more expensive bikes I never really thought about it. Coupe of friends have had bikes stolen recently, so I thought best just check I'm still covered & it turns out I wasn't  So now 3 bikes are listed on the policy £1k, £1250 & £1400, covered away from the house all for around £100 a year. We've claimed on the insurance for other things & NFU have always been very good at paying out

Sheila's Wheels here, up to £500 per bike, I have given them details of my 2 bikes worth more than that, as specified items. The bikes need to be locked up whilst unattended in public. No grade of lock specified but I do use a proper D-lock.

It's a bit more complicated than that...
I thinks that's full house insurance but as I rent a house I only need contents insurance
Most insurers will happily sell you the contents bit of the policy separately from the buildings.

directline plus provided a good quote and bikes covered £1000 each up to £5000 in total so going to go with them - I wonder how long it is until they stop covering bikes as well!

We're with Zurich, they've always paid out OK, although the claim on the stolen Mongoose was probably the worst and dragged on forever. Up to £1000 which I think is per bike and will insure specific more valuable bikes after negotiation. Cover them at home, or away from it. We have house & contents but that's what we need so have never queried anything else.
