It wasn't exactly pretty, was it? One of those buildings where despite the historical significance the question is less "why did you knock it down?" and more "Why did it take so long?"

I suspect the ‘modernised’ entrance with the garish colours did it no favours. One of our cinemas was re-furnished, and once the cladding came off the facade had some magnificent columns and windows.
I think the shell-like thingies on the roof are deco, and the tops of the windows, too..

I suspect those bits are meant to be neo-Classic/Georgian, though the tri-form motif over the windows is used a lot as a detached motif in Art Deco design, especially on furniture and furnishings
