I am broke...

Started a new job last month, had to buy and insure a new car as the company car went back.... I owed the company I left some holiday and got my final salary (about 2/3 of what I usually get on the 17th of last month.

I have £3.52 in one bank account and £0.98 in the other!

Payday in the new company is not till next Friday!!

Coming from anyone else I would accept, although I am afraid you may expect something special in return! And I don't like cheesy crisps!

When my kids were young we never had quite enough money and it was a constant struggle to clothe and feed us all. I don't miss those times as it has become easier since they finished university and flew the nest. I could still do with a large inheritance though!

True that. The world's on its head. When the kids are young and you need money for a larger house, education, food and clothing for your kids, you are at your poorest. When they've fled the nest and you don't need as much, that's when you've got it! Crazy!

I don't know about that. In my first term at Leeds University in 1977, I wasn't presented with a bill for my accommodation at Devonshire Hall £225 for a term's worth of full board. Celebrating my good fortune I spent the hall fees on beer - must have been a lot od beer as it was around £0.20 per bottle. Second term I received my grant cheque for £440 and a bill for two terms' accommodation for £450. I've been playing catch up ever since

You could move from Kent to Lancashire, £3.50 should buy you a decent house up there, and still have change for a fish and chip supper.

Too true. Couldnt afford one bill or the other, always brough cheap clothes etc etc.
Thankfully, after years of prudence and buying a cheap and affordable house, i'm in the best position i've ever been. Not swimming in it, but not having to skimp is nice.
