How can i get over this...?

I had a small accident a few years ago....

Fractured hip, pelvis, ribs, collarbone , skull

I was back on a bike in 8 weeks, and commuting again in 10 weeks

However it was 6 months before I could pass the place where I had the accident and over a year before I felt "comfortable" with that place

It takes time

Plus one for mirrors. i have tiny Zefal ones on all 3 bikes. Zefal Spy on my flat bar tourer with bar ends and Zefal Spin on my mountain bike. They're not the total answer. Need shoulder checks too but they add to the information you have enabling sensible decisions/choices.
Keep safe and good luck. Sounds like you're on the right track already.

I had considered those tiny mirrors myself but then I reckon they might put me off cycling totally. Its bad enough when you can hear an HGV right up your arse especially with nowhere to go but seeing it. Ignorance is bliss I reckon, just keep pedalling and hope your fairy is watching over you.

I use a mirror on one of my bikes,i can see those HGV's and tractors with wide trailers thundering up behind me! Sometimes i wonder if it's better to be blinkered like a race horse? I believe in someone watching over me.why not if it gives you confidence to get out and ride.

Hi All
A car drove past me at over 50 mph recently, probably about 4 inches away from me. i heard a car coming from behind at speed, so i moved closer to the kerb. i think i would have been hit if i hadn't done this.
i can only assume the driver didn't see me, and sailed past, oblivious to my presence.
the first thing that went through my mind was, no. i cant carry on cycling, the roads are too dangerous these days. i have been trying to get this thought out of my head and enjoy my cycling again, but i find that i actually no longer have that desire to go out on my bike. i just think of that sh 1tty little blue car that almost killed me, and that there are drivers out there that are a danger to us all and shouldn't be on the road (i called 101, they literally couldn't have cared less)
has anyone else been through this?
You'll get over it in your own time, and at your own pace.
Side-swiped by a lorry, whose driver had realised that he was in the wrong lane for the roundabout we were both approaching. Elevated section of an A road, 150 straight down. Shoulder hit the side and I was lucky not to have hit any of the straps/fastenings along the side as it went past. Only travelling slow at this stage due to him coming into my lane, but any further to the right and I'd have been under his rear wheels or over the barrier. Little choice but to use the same road later the same day. What I wasn't going to do was let him put me off cycling on the road.
You can approach your situation in the same manner. If you still feel that you find that it puts you off wanting to cycle on the road, have you considered off-road?
