How can you lie there and think of England...

The problem is that these women are doing well and winning, something alien to the male England team.

You can't have that

part of the problem is that Hope Powell called some of the Beeb's questions 'stupid'. Which had them giving out that she was 'feeling the strain'.

Ellen White's lobbed goal was a corker!

I have already been wondering why the BBC have bought the rights to this tournament and then hidden it away so no one can find it.

She is the Neil Warnock of the women's game; and although the Beeb's overall coverage isn't as inane and patronising as it used to be, some its reporters still are. It is encouraging to see that people like Sir Trevor Brooking do take it seriously and have done so for years.

You could easily find room for women's football on the Beeb by dropping Formula One, to the benefit of all parties. Someone on this forum said he would rather watch paint dry than women's sport - well, I'd rather watch women's tiddlywinks than Tax Exiles Tyre Changing Races.

I don't really see the totality of this argument. The BBC have been heavily promoting the game for a number of years.

It's really bad PR for the BBC but that's exactly what they are like for many sports. Saying things like they can't put it on BBC1/2 at 5pm and then breaking those conventions for something else when it suits them then ramming all kinds of stuff on the red button. We had this sort of things all through the 90s before digital tv was broadcast in the UK either in terms of channels or interactive services, before you could stream things over the internet with anything like that bitrate, before the BBC sports website even.

Had to say something when I saw the Billy Bragg reference. Personally, I'll watch any football and so I might find myself taking a look. There is a fair amount of skill on show but imo the level of goalkeeping is very very poor.

Although i have been told the Irish keeper who plays for Arsenal is pretty good.

I think if England beat France and face Germany in the semis you will see a massive surge in interest. It looks like the games have been played in nearly full stadiums and the BBCs interest has been woeful especially when you consider how much time and money they devote on Formula One.

I said on another thread but worth repeating methinks; I was surprised at the skill level having watched France play a couple of times. Tactically, I think the women's game is every bit as good as the men's game. The passing and movement is good. What is different is as you'd expect perhaps; the physical strength. Shooting lacks the power for instance.

Oh, and the goal keeping can be suspect, as you say! I felt almost sorry for the Canadian keeper, she was, frankly, a bit out of her depth.
