Sold my house and downsized. Cut my mortgage by over 50%. More money to spend on bikes and travelling.

I've been trying to convince LocalLass that this is something we should do in a few years. Love the idea of it, but doubt we'd be sane long enough to enjoy it!

I've had it but didn't celebrate it, it just made me miserable for a while, I suddenly became aware of how much time was behind me and how little time was in front of me, and how little I'd done with the time behind me. Then I was talking to a clubmate on a Sunday morning ride and he had me talking about how long I'd been married and the two healthy happy Sons me and my good lady had brought up, he then suggested that that was an achievement to be proud of and that got me thinking, I was then able to work through it.

I'm immortal so I don't have to worry about it leaving me to focus on fun.

My family seem to think I've been on one big mid life since my early 20's when I went travelling, came back sold the house, learnt to fly, bought motorbikes, got a job, got bored, went travelling, came back, bought a house, rented it out, went travelling, more flying, came back, got a job, got bored, bought sports cars, sold everything I own went to Australia for a year flying and scuba diving, came back bought a house, got a proper job, got bored told the boss to stick it up his harris, went to the US flying crashed out on my mates sofa, came back, bought more sports cars, punched above my weight with a girl, punched above our weigh and bought a big house, renovated it, had 2 girls and now I'm 45... I cant say there is anything I'd want to do/have now as a mid life, I'm happy with my lot.

My celebration (so far):
  1. At 47 took up cycling again - Cycling on Britain's roads is 75 times safer than being a couch potato
  2. At 52 bought a mini convertible - Just wanted a fun car
  3. At 53 (last year) had a pacemaker fitted - Didn't want one, just caught me completely by surprise
Not sure what's next on the list.
