Maybe you should show us your 'shortlist'.....

Met Estro...possibly my favourite but will depend on the fit and look (I don't like a massive or wide lid)

Giro Lonos or atmos (on special right now I think)

Spech Prevail (Sworks thingy) although the trout pout puts me off a bit

Mavic Synchro

FWIW I have a MET Inferno UL and a Mavic Plasma SLR.

Not exactly the ones you fancy, but both are great helmets and the fit IMO is spot on.

I nearly went for the sworks, but after reading the reviews, the Propero II was just as highly rated....and a lot cheaper. Now that it's come down in price though, it looks like a really good buy.

I am treating myself to a new lid. I've shortlisted a few and am happy with that list (no recommendations required thanks but thanks in advance for all those who are about to ignore this bit).

thing is, my final choice will be dependant upon fit, feel and of course, look.

So my question is, where can one go to try on lids of various sizes and brands. All the bike shops stock a few flavours in one or two sizes but never a good enough range to make a measured selection.

I'm looking at Met, Giro and possible a Mavic or Specialized
my preferred LBS stock all these brands bar Mavic and will happily let you try on their display models, and then let you enjoy a free coffee and biscuit in their caff while they get your preferred choice from the stock room.

Disturbingly easy really.

Have a look online and see what stock your local shops have first to avoid a wasted trip.
If you try on a giro/met/specialized, even if it's not the design you want, it should still give you a fair idea of fit.

I cant seem to find a Met Stockist anywhere in London. The estro is my weapon of choice but I understand they fit an oval head...mines not oval, hence the need to try it. I wish I and an LBS like yours in my tiny backwater town
