While I really like the commute ride, it is still a commute. This means need to be somewhere on time.

Do you feel your commute isn't quite as enjoyable as a non-commute bike ride?

Absolutely love my cycle commute. Highlight of my working day. I have been doing the same commute now for 13 years and still enjoy it. Good and bad weather.
Every now and then I have to get public transport and that is a good reminder how great cycling to and from work is.

First of all I’ll put my hands up and admit I only ride to work a few days a week due to other commitments.

I love riding to work in the morning, it’s a great start to the day - it’s a 17 mile route into work.

But sometimes I can’t really be bothered with the ride home as i’ve been on my feet for 9 hours and hungry so often it feels like a bit of a chore. However usually after a few miles I rediscover the joys of riding home.

Yes but mainly because commutes in almost always involve a couple of miles of the A10 and the motorists are extremely farking noisy, whereas if left to myself, I take one of the back roads within half a mile. The back roads are too much of a long way round to town, though (and much as I enjoy cycling, I tend to think about work on the way in so I prefer more time at home to a double-length ride in). Fortunately, actual commutes are not every day for me, thanks to flexible working.

My commute is 7.7 miles, if I want it to be that short. Most days it becomes 10 miles, largely to avoid the nasty roads and big roundabouts. I actually managed to get home the other morning with only 1 mile of road cycling.
I enjoy the ride in most of the time, always good fun on nights as the traffic is terrible so I get to filter which keeps me on my toes. As for riding home after a 12hr + night shift, well sometimes that a bit naff....
Versus 'me' rides, depends on the ride. Most days off I do the same old routes, days where I have longer are for the 100km & 100 mile challenge rides and they take me new places so are generally more interesting, not necessarily more enjoyable (think North Circular and Hanger Lane gyratory, poor planning on my part but got a square!)

Sometimes it is harder to find the time, or motivation to go out for a ride for it's own sake.
I really enjoy my commuting. There's a quicker utility route of 4 miles but I try to do the 10 mile route most days, or the 6 if I am pushed for time. Sometimes it goes up to 20 miles in. Usually 6 miles home which provides a nice gap between work and home. I would miss it very much if I had to give it up.

I enjoyed mine, even when the weather was crap and I was tired. It may have kept me sane.

This is it. Whenever you're fed up of cycling in, feel too tired or just can't be bothered, just go get the train/bus or drive in and that'll soon rejuvenate your desire to ride in whenever possible!

Commuting by bike has changed my reaction to certain scenarios. Before when I was met with traffic up ahead in the car, it was a sinking feeling with wasted time and the unknown of when I'd actually get home. Now on the bike, it's a great buzz leaving hundreds of stationary cars in your wake. When I arrived at work to find our car park was full, it was a matter of driving around city streets trying to find a space and paying for the privilege. Now, space isn't an issue no matter what time of day I arrive.

In 2014, I spent three months working in Teddington. I had to get the train in to Victoria then ride down to Teddington. It was a bit of a schlep but I got to ride through Richmond Park every morning. One morning, I was delayed by traffic - ie a herd of deer loafing in the road.

It was a very happy three months.

Get to ride through there each commute - it is proper lovely  - and especially weird given it's part of a commute into central London for me.
