My commute is 7.7 miles, if I want it to be that short. Most days it becomes 10 miles, largely to avoid the nasty roads and big roundabouts. I actually managed to get home the other morning with only 1 mile of road cycling.
I enjoy the ride in most of the time, always good fun on nights as the traffic is terrible so I get to filter which keeps me on my toes. As for riding home after a 12hr + night shift, well sometimes that a bit naff....
Versus 'me' rides, depends on the ride. Most days off I do the same old routes, days where I have longer are for the 100km & 100 mile challenge rides and they take me new places so are generally more interesting, not necessarily more enjoyable (think North Circular and Hanger Lane gyratory, poor planning on my part but got a square!)
