Somebody upthread mentioned TT riders and a running start. Always from the left 'cos the gear lever was on the right. Did this once on a Yamaha, foot pushed left side gear lever into neutral. Swan dive over petrol tank followed. Recovery followed slowly . . .

I've always mounted from the left... lean the bike towards me, and hook the right leg over the saddle.
I then clip the right foot in and get going, then the left foot clips in last. Unclipping, the left foot comes off and rests on the kerb / verge.
If it's flat pedals, it's the same order. But on flat pedals I seem to do the "hello cowboy" mount where the left foot starts "standing" on the pedal, and I do the skateboard skoot with the right leg on the left of the frame to get going, then the right leg gets thrown over the saddle when I have enough momentum.

I'm right handed if that matters, which to be fair, it does seem to have an influence!

Not quite. Four pages of replies to a question of how other people get on their bikes. With a large (human) readership, there'll be a lot of ways and a lot of variations on a theme.

Here's a few examples on how to, and how not to do, the flying mount.

I am ambidextrous :becool: which leads my body to great confusion when distinguishing between right and left, it's almost like my brain disconnects on giving the body his orders!
Generally, I cannot do anything in a motion from right to left, I mean, I can but it feels uncoordinated.
I cannot mount the bike from the drive side, or walk with it from that side.
For some reason, I have major problems doing right tight turns, left ones are no problem.
Also, I push off with my right foot, but cannot dismount with the same foot at 2 o'clock, it needs to be down.

Right handed, and always get on/off from the left. Habit, rather than safety, as it's always been that way since I was a lad

Same for me on motorbikes too, it just doesn't feel right to get on and off from the right.

I get on from the right, leg over the saddle. I dismount on the left, laying bike over slightly. That's because if I don't lay bike over, I risk being cleaved in twain along the vertical axis by the top tube...

Am left-handed, left-eyed, two-footed, bowl left-handed and bat right handed. Go figure LOLOLOLOL

Wasn't sure so I tested it out today.
I'm left footed but equally happy to get on using either leg just depends where I am in relation to the bike.
Usually unclip right foot first
