How early is too early for an early dart?

Let us say, for example, that someone has just finished running a training session in Chester.

Imagine that it is 15:08 hours but a 45 minute drive back to their office, and that perhaps their finish time is 17:00 hours.

It's also a nice summer's afternoon and the sun is out.

Do they drive home? Or to the office?

Discuss.

How much does it cost to Oldham?
I'd be 'stuck in traffic' if anyone phoned.

I occasionally bunk off early for a nice round of golf. On these occasions my diary entry says "on a course".

For a bike ride I suppose you could put "traveling"

Back to the office and don't leave until after your boss has gone home.

Maybe.
Imagine in this (quite imaginary) scenario that the person's boss is working from home himself today...

I have a feeling that should this have actually been a real life dilemma that the person involved may already be at home putting the kettle on by now.

Depends on workload, I suppose but I would think you could bunk off and say you started early or worked through lunch if you get questioned on it? Phone the Boss and explain the situation - they will quite likely say not to bother coming back in (for Today anyway). This is bike riding weather imho and work has no business getting in the way :sun:

FWIW I am 'wfh' Today and got out for a cheeky loop at lunchtime. Hard effort and I was back within the hour! I am biding my time for perhaps another 30 mins then I'll be straight back out there

In all seriousness, when you offset less than an hour of pay for the additional 20 or so business miles at 70p per mile it doesn't actually make a great deal of economic sense to go back when I'll most likely make a brew, check some emails, and chat to employee A about her evening with her horse 'Harold'.

Exactly. Makes more sense for you to not go back in. If you are up to date with what you really need to get done Today, any reasonable Boss will see it this way
In any case, if you've spent a day training people you deserve a couple of hours off. It's knackering!
It certainly is... especially in this weather with no aircon!

ED's are alright as long as nothing happens that requires your presence during what should be your hours of work, or having taken an early dart you're involved in an incident when you should have been at work.

Unless time due is taken, in either case the individual involved and his / her supervisor may have questions to answer if their employer takes a dim view of employees being paid for time when they were out on a bike ride or down the pub when they should have been working.

Depends on if your a good employee. My old manager objected to me going missing after 3pm on Fridays to play golf (I am not office bound)

I just replied "dont even think of sending the next newbie out with me for on the job training as I am not paid to train people and btw I wont be putting in extra hours to get urgent tenders back to the clients unless you stay late or come in on weekends as well, in fact I might just work my contracted hours"
