I can't be that hard, after a few years of cycling I've given in and bought some arm warmers the other day.

I've just put the shorts away, and moved on to 3/4 lengths, and long sleeved jersey.
Fine in the AM, but I sweat like a stuck pig on the way home.

I'll probably stick with this through most of the winter, only when it gets below 0 will the thicker longs come out usually.

But then I'll happily wander around the house in shorts and a t-shirt whilst the wife and kids are wearing 3 jumpers, wooly hats and scarves and are demanding the CH is turned on.... Nesh the lot of em.

It was tad nippy this morning, had to revert to my 3/4 shorts and a none stringed vest, opting for an enclosed one instead ... well you wouldn't want me catching cold would you

Geordies love cold weather

As long as I breathe, I attack.
Just stepped up to a base layer and running leggings given out ground frost round these parts now and i suffer with my knees as well when it gets to cold, especially as i spend the 1st 2 hours at work sitting on a fork truck in an unheated warehouse which is basically a giant tent and dang cold so i do not get to warm up .

And its ok for the soft southerners who still get sunshine this time of year :biggrin::biggrin:

Now the Temperature is getting colder i get daily readings from the guys who take the cars to work, last year my record was -4degrees. On days like that i'll take as many layers as i can

As a side note if it was very cold i would leave the helmet off and wear a woollen hat, as you can guess sod's law occurred and i got knocked off on one of those very days, Broken wrist , smashed up bike and multiple bruising but my undying memory was the noise my head made when it smashed into the floor.

NO matter how cold it gets always wear that helmet.

Yep ready for winter here, lights on, shorts tucked away til spring.

I've got a one-size-fits-all helmet for winter - adjust the gearing for big heads in the morning and wear a fleecey hat underneath and then tighten the fit going home when it's warmer and I'm cycling uphill.

I wouldn't say it was a case of "how hard are you", but more, "how hot do you get"?!

All depends how hard I'm riding.

If I'm really pushing it, I can easily ride in -1 degrees in a single mid-layer micro-fleece and pair of ronhill bikesters - and even then I have to unzip the fleece all the way down to my stomach to get some decent ventilation!

If I'm taking it easy (e.g. riding with one of my friends who is not that quick), I will put three layers on at 10 degrees.

I'm not hard, I wear my legwarmers (in the morning at least) most of the year round, I expect July and August are my only shorts-only months. I very rarely let the weather stop me cycling though, but that's not because I'm hard. It's because getting the bus is worse.

I find it impossible to ride the roads around here if it freezes as the council "cant justify spending the money gritting"
