Now the Temperature is getting colder i get daily readings from the guys who take the cars to work, last year my record was -4degrees. On days like that i'll take as many layers as i can

As a side note if it was very cold i would leave the helmet off and wear a woollen hat, as you can guess sod's law occurred and i got knocked off on one of those very days, Broken wrist , smashed up bike and multiple bruising but my undying memory was the noise my head made when it smashed into the floor.

NO matter how cold it gets always wear that helmet.

But did you get any head injuries? Sounds like you did just fine without the helmet.

Shorts all year round for me too although I did buy a pair of longs from Aldi a few years back but I overheated pronto.

Do wear mitts though, only my hands suffer in the cold.

I'm still in shorts but I have been wearing a l/s base under s/s jersey and f/f gloves for a week.
brrrr

It was pretty cold this morning so I'll switch for warmer l/s jerseys soon and I'll probably last out for a week or two more before going for tights/longs. I'm also still in very thin ankle socks and they will have to change to something thicker soon too.

# quick tip, if you're bothered about over-heating in longs/tights and your footwear is suitable you can wear the strap over your shoe and then roll up the legs if you're too hot.

My outdoor temp thing was reading 1.9 c this morning, below 5c its longs for me, long sleeved top and full gloves, even went for the Gore Wear ones this morning and still had cold fingers, I tend to aim for not cold, rather than warm. I passed a young lad on a bike in a short sleeved shirt, I said morning and asked him if he was cold, he said freezing but its good for the soul !

Was a lovely ride in, Cycling enables you to savour a nice autumnal morning rather than the little glimpses you get from a car, it also allow you to "savour" it when its p1ssing down and dark, to be honest, I just like being outside, very rarely does the weather* put me off. I love the shower in the morning, have to get dry in the cubicle as stepping out causes instant icing and apparent sex change.

* I dont do icy roads, snow yes, dry and ferking freezing yes, but not crusty icy roads or sheet ice, I value my collar bone !

Once it starts getting cold (and it's not reached that point here yet), I wear bib longs and switch to my Polaris Silicon top. No base layers or layers on top of it, as it's more than hot enough in it after a mile. The Buff goes under the helmet and the winter gloves come out. That's it.

I've had problems with my knees since I was a kid so I don't take risks with freezing them which might leave them worse than they already are!
