Just completed 25 years service. Worked 14 years on the shop floor and 11 years in a staff position. Wish I could go back on the shop floor the way things have gone over the last 5 years.

I have been trying to get out for the last 2 years and have got to the point in my life where I am considering a total career change. I do not mind taking a pay cut for a more fulfilling career. I am honestly not cut out to work in manufacturing management these days. Still its a job.

First proper job was for over 10 years, then the next 8 years full time parent, then 6 years so far in this job. I don't like change, so I imagine I will probably stay until some other force (be it health, my employer etc) makes me change.

So far 3.5 years in current job, 3.5 years with previous company and 12 with the one before that. Coming up on 20 years in the industry and seriously considering retraining for something else.

39 years, I started as an apprentice on the railway in 1974, I fear that i won't make 40 years though, as at present i am off sick and the condition will stop me driving trains or be near the railway in the future.

Sorry to hear that I hope things work out ok in the end. I'm trying to get a shunters or drivers job atm but no luck with any of the toc  I'm still applying and keeping them fingers crossed when a vancy does come up.

Barnet,
An update to the post back in June. I am up for another medical with the occupational health people next monday. My company seems unwilling to pension me off at the moment, so if the company Doc. agrees I will be on light duties in the office helping out the Rostering clerk untill some point in the future when I maybe put back onto driving duties. I also received my driving license back from the DVLA yesterday, so things are progressing at last.

As long as they keep you on the books even if on long term sick, that's not your fault P.... my dad had an illness that prevented him from going back to his old job, so they gave him a foreman's job to take advantage of his working knowledge- he loved it for the last year he did it, mind that was 25 years ago!]

Edit: Just caught up and saw your last post P.... good news!

8 years in current job, really enjoy it no plans to move on.
It's not always been that way i have had some jobs, where i have left after a couple of hours. One of the best jobs i had was a barman in a strip club , decent wage and great tips {yes imeant tips} :-)

I was in my last job for 15 years, was heartily sick of it. It was a hot bed of bullying and mismanagement which was a shame as I loved the actual job itself.

Got a new job in May this year (I say new, I'd done it part time temporarily for a year prior to getting permenant post). And then I got another new job last month (so have two part time jobs).

Changing jobs has made me so much happier, it's amazing the impact positive management and a happy team can have on life.

This is the 2nd time round I've been at my current place of employment. I was there a year the 1st time round, spent 7 months last summer working elsewhere then came back for my 2nd round of punishment and have so far been here a year.

I should really get out there and try to find a full time job with a decent wage (I'd be happy with a half decent wage to be honest.) but I've allowed myself to become stuck in a rut.

5 years and 18 days. 31 years to go.....

I enjoy, but as soon as I can guarantee enough income from DJing... I'm off. (BTW, this is just a dream. Chances of it happening? Slim to f*** all).

I left school at 16 to do an apprenticeship in accountancy. Moved around for three years in various role at various places learning the ropes. Started CIMA at my current place and have clocked up 4 years today. Looking to possibly move on when I qualify as a management accountant back end of next year as there are a few blockers holding up progression up the ladder.

Currently I have got 7 years behind me at the young age of 23 only another 45 years to go before I can retire at 68 unless the goal posts get moved again. Plenty of time left to change
