I get three months at a time for all of them except one which could have some serious side effects. They won't let me have that one without a regular blood test every eight weeks.

Every three weeks for Phenytoin Sodium, every four weeks for Clonazepam.
Both life long.
Phenytoin Sodium has caused bone thinning due to long term use(38 years, 3 months).

When the licence for Phenytoin Sodium(Epanutin) changed hands, the cost went up from 50p to £16.25 per capsule. Prescription length stayed the same.

A weeks supply is enough to overdose on either. Less if the wrong person gets hold of them.

That's not something I want to read. Did you take it very regularly? I use mine reactively to gout attacks so I'll only use it for 2 days or so and then stop until the next attack.
Sorry Martin, wasn't trying to alarm you(guess I did though).
I took them for years about thirty years ago and they were confirmed as the cause of my kidney failure in 2002.
Had a transplant in 2003, heads loads of rejection related problems until it all settled down in 2006. Dialysis and renal staff at Hammersmith hospital were absolutely brilliant! If I said Thankyou from now until the day I died it wouldn't be nearly enough. I really do owe them my life, literally!
As an aside I also take Allopurinol for Gout.

One drug that isn't supposed to be very kind to you really helped my gout before renal failure. It was Colcicine.(not sure about the spelling)

I should have added that as an Asthma sufferer I paid for my meds on the yearly ticket (This was much cheaper than paying per item.) until I qualified on age grounds for free prescriptions.

It seems to vary by drug (potential for toxicity, addiction etc) and probably PCT and budget

British National Formulary probably not a bad place to start...or ask your GP

A months worth and they are free as I am old and decrepit. I refrain from taking the painkillers unless I am feeling sorry for myself as they stop everything working and I have asked to come off the other stuff which I cant spell with digging the cartons out.
Two of the pills are to help of the other two one is to counter act the effects of the first two and the last one is to counter the effects of that one .No wonder I feel ill.

Every 3 weeks. Go in for jab then rebook next jab & order the meds. Local pharmacy collects and I pick up the week before my jab.

Pain in the butt. Literally
