How low can you go (cycling temp).

Depends for me. For instance has it been wet the night before or the route. In the Edinburgh -6deg was my supposed limit below that grit really isn't effective. I did apparently cycle home in -13deg  Down here though roads are less well treated and I think I'd be a wee bit more cautious; it seldomly gets too cold anyway about -3 or -4 deg I think is all I've recorded.

Has anyone tested carbon fibre at eg minus 10 ?

I've commuted when its been below -10, I've commuted when skates would have been a better option, I've commuted when even the drivers have been struggling in the snow, I've done Sunday rides in similar temperatures and conditions as I've commuted in.

Started at +7 during the Etap and the first climb, the temp dropped to -5 but the wind-chill rain and sleet made it feel life minus 10-15 had to abandon and nearly died. After my Chemo and 2 bone marrow transplants I think I wouldn't cycle in anything less than +5 now... I know I am a woose.

No shame in that. Don't suppose many have been thru chemo and transplants and attempted the Etape! Hero.

About 4 years ago it was -15 here one Saturday afternoon. Bone hard cold and totally dry, so no ice either.
I went out for a ride, all wrapped up like toast! My plan was to stop in Cambridge for a brew but I was so wrapped up that I was sweating buckets, so I didn't stop at all for fear of cooling, then getting cold and wet on the inside.

Plenty of sub zero commutes and fun rides over the past few years, usually on a wide tyred hybrid or MTB - just take it easy and dress appropriately. I try and stay away from areas where I know ice forms.

If my memory serves me correctly I think I have cycled in minus numbers in shorts. I like cycling in the snow because I'm usually just fast as most drivers and it's nice to have a level playing field.
