Lefty tighty. Get it righty.
I compost all my vegetable waste so we don't always have much food waste - sometimes we have a chicken carcass or some fat/ bones, but not every week.

Unfortunately my bin isn't usable as it's one f the old ones that the foxes can open. I've been meaning to ask the council for one of the newer fox-proof ones but the last time I looked they had a notice saying they were out of stock.

I don't know why some houses in my area have the newer bins and some, like us, have the old ones that the foxes can open. Once I sort it we will be using it when we do have waste.

Our bins only arrived recently. Not much for us to put in.

Veggy waste goes in the compost and we don’t tend to have excess food to dispose of. Skin, fat, bones and little else goes in. Occasionally if someone doesn’t eat all their serving but it’s rare.

One small bag per week. Looks lost in the bin

Yeah, that's about what we generate. Plus some uneaten bread sometimes. I used to use it regularly before the foxes got wise to the bin opening technique.

When we get ours there will be some things to go in it

Since I can;t have "proper " bread my wife gets small ones - but they always go out of date and half of it has to go in the bin
(yes I know about freezing them - but she says frozen ones that have been defrosted taste and feel stale)

there are often peeling and the like from potatoes and veg

and other stuff

not sure where we wil keep it - I know there are foxes on the old golf course and stream at the back
and the presence fo food bins would attract them onto the gardens

but we won;t get them until the end of the year - so we shall see!

Modern ones should be sealed when closed, so they can't be opened by foxes/cats/other animals. Or even let out much scent.

Errrr, bread & butter pudding, bread pudding, bruschetta, toast, cheese on toast, mini pizzas, toasties, french toast? Just because it's gone out of date doesn't mean it's suddenly developed language skills...

Maybe time for the missus to swap from bread to rolls?

I bet if you lined up what was being wasted and worked it out in terms of money and quantity, then maybe that might be an eye-opener.

FYI, I've *just* been issued with my food waste caddies, first collection separate from the green bin next week.

There won't be over much to put in there other than tea bags / tea leaves, fruit & veg peelings, egg shells, the odd bone and any cat food that Madam Boo hasn't eaten. I do not like food waste, and if I see something looking a bit tired, I'll find a way of using it up.

I used to compost, but stopped doing it when it began attracting rats and just put it in the green (combo garden & food waste) bin instead.
