I only live 2.5 miles from work, and normally ride straight in/home if in a hurry, or anything from 10-25 miles on way home depending on time (weather is immaterial on way home)

I was adding 5 - 10 miles extra to my 7 mile trip home during summer to try to help shed a few pounds but now dark mornings and nights are here i just do the minimum miles to get me in and home form work.
Rarely done any extra on way in to work as i always like to get in on time.

In Spring/Summer I had 5/6 miles and about 1000ft of climbing on the return leg but only if the weather is good. Had a snow 'storm' last April which was a little dicey

I will add anywhere between 3 and 15 miles onto the normal 6 mile commute but generally only on the home leg if I can leave the office at a sensible time... Often depending on how much I need to relax after the day @ work and the weather.

I don't add extra miles on. I do however have 2 different routes. 90% of the time I ride from Tickhill, through Rossington-Bessaccar-Doncaster-Scawsby to home in Scawthorpe.

Occasionally, I'll go Tickhill-Wadworth-Loversall-Balby-Scawsby to home in Scawthorpe.

Both are the same distance (11.5 miles) but the former is almost completely flat, the latter has a few biggish hills and is a bit more challenging. Both routes take around 40 mins, but I tend to take the hilly, more scenic route when it's sunny.

Home to work straight = 12 miles. Usual journey in a morning can range from 12 - 30 miles, home time from 12 - 60 miles dependant on what else I have planned.

The direct routes are 15 km. I add on 25 km to the morning route but take one of the direct routes home. I have been recently considering adding on the the home route. Perhaps this week and add on a 5 km chunk and see how it goes. After all, I'll be purchasing a road bike for Christmas and will need to get in shape for the season start in March.

I generally do 13 miles each way, with the shortest possible route being just under 5 miles. Im quite fortunate with my commute, once Im out the city (about 1mile) I can go the short route down busy main roads or loop around it and cycle down a nice country lane with a stream alongside it and very few cars, even at rush hour, just the odd tractor. I'll tend to add onto the 13 in nicer weather, depends how much time/desire I have. There is a funny road i can go down for a change sometimes, in the dry. Words cant describe how bumpy it is, but its great fun.
