If they do what you need them to do, why not?
Apparently only one in 20 ride in competition, so TdF etc specification bikes are unnecessary for the 19 out of 20.

Unknown bikes as a kid until a Raleigh Aztec aged 9 or 10.
Anyway, Raleighs, then an Unknown make of a Y - shaped monstrosity before I became serious again (I simply cannot remember what it was, but I called it 'Sir Creaky Bike' because, well, that is exactly what it did, creak), Felt, Peugeot, Claude Butler, Humber (a 'proper' pre 1932 one) and a Brompton.

As a kid I had a Tri-ang 
and a bitsa.
I had 2 Raleighs as a teenager.
Currently have an Apollo TDF 2.0, Saracen Fasttrax, GT XCR 1000 and a Boardman hardtail.

Pre recumbent (12)
Tri-ang infant trike (got a photo of me on it somewhere 18 months or so old)
Raleigh trike convertible to bike age 5-7
Triumph Rodeo 24" wheels, age 10-15. First new bike.
Royal England, rescued and restored 15 -18
Raleigh 3 speed, ancient, bought cheap to get around while living in Suffolk aged 20. Eventually donated to YHA many years later.
Tensor "Rudi Altig Lazer Custom", new, aged about 26-27 when I got interested in cycling again. Sold on to buy
Viscount Aerospace Sport, new. Modified it to become a light tourer. Refurbished in 1983, sold on in 1994 which I later regretted.
Falcon Quattro Sport MTB, new, bought when I was 37 to fit a child seat to. Worked quite well, tiny daughter loved it.
Replaced with Claud Butler Urban 100, New once daughter had own bike. First alu bike. Drop bar conversion.
Aged 55 fancied a steel tourer, so a Claud Butler Dalesman appeared. Thought it might last me till I was 70.
Aged 64, developing a stiff neck, gambled on the easier geometry of a used steel Revolution Country Explorer. Success. Sold the Dalesman.
Had a hankering for a hardtail MTB, found a used Marin Shoreline Trail. Nice, but hard work compared with the Revolution. Sold after a year.
Folders (4)
Bickerton Country project, a late version of the Bickerton Portable with 20" wheels. Interesting, but sold to an enthusiast after fettling.
Viking Safari, bought when I was 67 ish. Wife fancied doing some non tarmac cycling using folders, bought one each used.
Dahon Vitesse HG7. I liked the Viking so much, I wondered if a more premium brand would be even better. Nope. Dahon soon sold.
Brompton M3R. Bought at the tail of lockdown, local, fairly cheap (for a Brompton!). Safari a better ride, but sold on the fold. Safari sold.
Recumbent Era (6)
The discovery of recumbents has meant that despite being ancient, longer rides are still possible.
Iowa Linear LWB, bought on the proceeds of the Marin whose selling price was inflated by lockdown mania. Outlasted the
Dawes Low rider SWB which I couldn't get to fit me comfortably,
Sinner Comfort trike partly due to seat recline but mainly because it seems I'm not a trike kinda guy, and
HP Velotechnik Grasshopper SWB which despite strenuous efforts I just couldn't take to.
HP Velotechnik Spirit medium wheelbase bought aged 71 which complemented the Linear and now the Rans.
Rans Stratus XP LWB aged 73
The Revolution Country Explorer was sold last year, the last of my diamond frame bikes. Sadly the Linear went a year ago, no space for 2 LWBs.
The Survivors are on my sig.
