I had a torrid time.

My recycling bin blew over and all the cans and bottle were blown across my lawn.
However, against all the adversity, we all pulled together and managed to sort things and get it all cleared up.
A shining example to those who never knew the Dunkirk spirit!

Advice please, as you look at the garden from inside the house on the right side two panel and fence post has collapse and leaning towards my side. Spoke to neighbour (new neighbour a bit weird) they say it's my responsible I said I doubt it as the previous neighbour has repaired it.
My question who responsible forthe fence? I always thought the fence on the right side is the neighbour responsible
You need to look at the deeds.
We are an end house so we KNOW we are responsible for the fence to our right. The fence between us and the new neighbour.........to our left..........was falling down (it had been put up by the old neighbour). When we asked him to repair it he got the deeds out which clearly showed WE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR BOTH SIDES:eek:. Seems weird but on every row of houses there will be 2 end houses and one of them will be responsible for 2 fences.

No really, as I say am just asking for advice.
Ok sorrry.
I'm not aware of any rules regarding responsibility for the boundary fence, there is certainly nothing about that on my title deeds, perhaps it depends on where you live.
If you are unable to come to an amicable agreement with your neighbours regarding repairs you can leave it until a new neighbour comes along or just bite the bullet and have it repaired yourself.
I have to say that claiming the previous neighbour fixed the fence and therefore it is the new neighbours responsibility to fix it now does not sound like a very good opener for negotiations.
Or you could employ a lawyer to fight your case which would probably cost you a lot more than what the fence is worth.
If you're erecting a fence on a boundary that you're responsible then you should erect it with the best side facing the neighbours. People either don't know this or take no notice though so the direction of the fence is no indication of who is responsible for that boundary.
Whilst this may be the convention, it's not a hard and fast rule. Basically, if someone is erecting a fence, they are paying for it and they can choose which side faces them. We've just had fences on both sides replaced as part of a patio rebuild and have the "good" sides facing us on both sides. Utter swine, we are.

I live in a mid terrace house. Speaking to work colleges they all say the right side is the neighbour responsibility. But i will check my deed.

All the houses I've had, the fence on the left hand side (as you look out the house) and then the panels at the bottom of the garden have been my repsonsibility.

Co-incidentiliy this morning my neighbour has changed all the panels without asking me. Not going to say anything.

My understanding (from internet research) is as follows: The deeds show who owns the fence and therefore on who's side of the boundary it sits. If it's your neighbour's fence then it's his decision as to whether or not he maintains it and the only thing you can do if he chooses not to maintain it is to construct your own fence on your side of the boundary. Also, if you do anything to your neighbour's fence (such as hanging things on it) which contributes to the demise of the fence then you can be held liable.

PS. Of course irrespective of ownership the fence is of mutual benefit to you both so the sensible thing would be to compromise and cut a deal with your neighbour.

If we add in all the storms since November, as I missed 6 weeks in hospital, nothing. Even at the caravan, nothing, whilst my dad's plastic shed was blown to bits at his caravan. One near ours had the whole roof blown off.

I have no fences. I should probably start a campaign to get some.
Don't. I'd go back to post-and-rail if it wouldn't look so odd with the rest of the place hedged and fenced.

Did the wind make you spill hair restorer on the scooter? ;)
