3M call it Duct tape.
It was known as Divers tape in a past workplace, I think because divers, who favoured its underwater capabilities seemed to be major users.

Wasn't duck tape so called because it was originally made from duck canvas cloth? I think it was originally made for military applications, fixing holes in tents and truck canvas tarpaulin. I thought duct tape was a later copy... I could be wrong.
