How many would use this, had it been built?

Double flyover, planned in the late 60's - early 70's. Lower level is 100 feet above the old bridge, with a further 75 foot to ground level. Top level would have been at least a further 50 feet above the first level.
The idea was that through traffic on the A58 entering from the bottom would use the upper tier, by-passing the town centre entirely, including local traffic.
Edited to include the picture.

I think they look awful. The one at Hammersmith looks awful. They throw a lot of noise too.

The area around the flyover was mainly business, recent clearances, at the time, of the old housing enabled the plans to be drawn up. But never got beyond Stage one. They forsaw that there would be an increase in traffic. As far as I'm aware it came down to money in the end. Stage Two never being built.
The old roads were narrow, in some cases single lanes with two way traffic.

The road between Hipperholme and Halifax is like a roller coaster and has some shocking corners, wouldn't want to travel along it on an icy day.

I passed through Halifax recently, and the existing single flyover seemed adequate, I wasn't aware of any bottleneck.

I hate them both. They are to be avoided at all costs when I go to brum to visit my mum

I live in Burton on Trent and he lives in Bourneville so unless I do a circuitous route I have to use them

(Totally O/T... strange place Bourneville It's like a small quaint village surrounded by tower-blocks and kebab shops... oh and you cant by any alcohol within its boundaries...)

built by the Quaker Cadbury family to provide a far better standard of housing and living for their workers than the usual urban slummage of the time. Given the choice back then, I'd have happily been a teetotal Cadburyite with all the municipal benefits the Cadburys offered.

My Bro reckons a large supermarket chain opened a 'local' branch and took the Bourneville trust/local council to court to get the Alcohol ban removed as they claimed it was anachronistic in this day and age.... The court said NO.... you knew the restrictions when you planned the store... just because you are Billion pound company you cannot make ALL the rules..... (don't know how true this story is but the local chain shop doesn't sell booze!) oh and he can only paint his front door a colour that has been approved by the trust...

I think its nice and quaint in this day and age that the beliefs of the original owners of Cadburys are still being honoured and upheld even though the Chocolate factory is now in the hands of Kraft....

I don't drive, and high-level busy flyovers are not the kind of road that I like to cycle on.

I hardly ever go to Halifax anyway, apart from recent trips to the hospital, which I hope not to repeat.

I have cycled in for a few audax events starting from the town centre, so a bypass would not have been much use for me.

I never cycled on Coventry's Ring Road which is like a scaled-down version of that Halifax scheme.
I regularly go through both Spaghetti Junction and the Queensway tunnels to get to my bruv's house I don't mind em but my mum hates both and normally closes her eyes....
I hope she isn't driving at the time!

Nope I drive there..... she doesn't drive outside of Burton on Trent doesn't even use the A38 (dual carriageway) to Derby or Lichfield I think she does about 1500 miles a year!
My late mother's neighbour was so scared of traffic that she would only drive from her house, 1.5 miles down the road to the shops, and then back again! We persuaded her that since there is a direct bus to the shops, with a stop 50 yards down the road, she might as well scrap the car and make use of her bus pass. That is what she did!

You can, if you go to the Bournville Social Club, only place that sells booze. No fast food places either. Up until quite recently you also had to gave at least two fruit trees in your garden.
