Actually, coming to hink of it I don't know what I am more disgusted by, the subject of dirty 'mud flaps' or the fact that you might wear Lycra...and on a Brompton!!!

My terrible confession, (gather round fellow mingers, at a safe distance).

I have not washed my winter gloves in two months. OK , shrink away, in horror.

All the rest of the stuff gets washed quite often, but I was shocked and appalled when my daughter told me that I stank when I took off my "boil in a bag jacket". I guess that other people have better noses than our own. I apologise for sharing this most fascinating aspect of my personal hygiene

No hard and fast rules. Botty hygiene is dealt with by showering straight after my early morning sitting and follwed by a liberal dab of zinc-oxide cream ....lubes, and prevents sweating. That way my chamois is exposed to a bit of sudocreme but little else. All my commuting shorts have Coolmax Silver pads which are anti-bacterial. That way, even if I do sweat after the sudocreme application, no odour from the pad.

That way a pair of shorts can last up to two days.

Shirts/base layers, again, only put on after a shower and a liberal spray of Dove cucumber fresh deo. However, on a hot day the layer next to the skin will inevitably start to smell of BO, especially polyester, so far more likely to be changed daily.

MTB kit generally gets changed after every ride. Mud in winter and blood sweat and tears in summer.

I ride in/out twice a week (Tue/Thu) and walk in/out twice a week (Mon/Fri).

The base layer tends to smell abit just after the first ride in of the week but it normally gets reused on the Thursday, shorts normally only one ride in/out same with socks but once my new base layers arrive all the items will only be used for one ride and then they will be washed.

I tend to wear different gear for walking and the trousers are used both days and I tend to wash them every couple of weeks as they don't tend to get that sweaty and are quite baggy.

All the gear will get washed very regularly after use, especially with the new all singing and dancing £800 washing machine that's on its way !!

My wife rolled her eyes tonight when she caught me rummaging in the laundry basket to find a top to go running in. Tghen she told me off for putting it back in after I got home. Apparently wet sweaty gear should go straight in the machine.

I do shower twice a day though....

I've got more than five pairs of shorts and five baselayers, one wash of cycling clothes every Friday. In cold weather my outer layers stay fresh for a number of days but the underlayers change daily.
