my current daily commuter has so far cost me

£50 purchase fee from e bay plus £20 carriage charge to get it here

my Marin Bear valley currentley my spare commuter cost me £250 back in 1992 instead of the list price of £750 ,due to the fact it had been vandilised in selling shop , and had had its transfers part pulled off and tyres slashed

Apollo Vortice Urban MTB £179.99

I'm planning to spend 3-4 times that on a new road bike, but I'll still use the Vortice for commuting. Don't want to leave a decent bike locked up in the street all day.

I spent about 200 quid on one of the 2009 Subway 1's (last few still being cleared when I looked a couple of weeks ago) and it's been a solid, not too heavy and dependable machine. Aside from the security considerations of using an expensive bike for year-round commuting, the crud off the roads and what it can do to components makes you look for cheaper alternatives.

Pearson touche Fixed with mudguards, carrier and gaterskins £630 almost four years ago. Most expensive commuter I have ever had. Before the Pearson most of my commuters have either been cobbled together from spare parts or brought second hand. The Pearson now has a 68" (46x18) gear, 165mm cranks, is wearing Bontrager Racelight tyres and has covered around 12000 miles.
