How much is a £5.00 note worth ?

I'd have held them up to the light, sniffed them, rubbed them between my fingers, and shone a UV light on them, and even then I would be suspicious!
The best test homemade for £50 notes is rubbing them on white paper. It should leave a faint smudge as the ink never dries and that is exceptionally hard to do.

Neither have I. Its the housekeepers job to do tawdry tasks like shopping. ;)
I never spend £50 on a single shopping trip***! In fact, I usually only spend £30-40 a week and that would be spread over 4 or 5 trips.

*** And I usually pay by card anyway

I'm not saying that I am actually poor, but let me put it this way - I have never touched a £50 note!
New one is odd in that it's the same size as the one it replaced. Unlike every other note.

In Spain once I had a 500Euro note (worth about £400 at the time). Hire car company wouldn't accept it. Tried in Mercadona (Sainsburys equivalent) for 30 Euros of food, changed without raising an eyebrow.

Nay lad, across.

But as you said it's no longer flat.
Found it then?
