Then there will be an explosion and the moon will leave its orbit...
it'll be more like Trumpton than Moonbase Alpha.

The best thing that could happen to planet Earth is the demise of the human race. It's bound to happen at some point in the future; nature and the laws of averages says so. Might be that we get malkied by a big meteorite, or a large volcanic eruption will make the planet uninhabitable (for us delicate beings), disease, nuclear war - something will bring about our end. 'Tis inevitable and just a matter of time!

I saw that "Hard Sun" documentary on BBC1 last night. Apparently, according to that, we have 5 years max left before the planet reaches extinction level. No wonder the government were trying to catch the programme's presenters! That doesn't explain why they had a fight with each other on the beach. I mean, they should have some sort of professional standards, even if we are all doomed.........

Maybe the predicted ice age starting in 2030 will sort things out.

A 15-YEAR long mini ice age could be due to hit the Northern hemisphere in just FOUR years ... Scientists predict the number of observed sun spots will continue to decline over the next few ...

I'm convinced there will be huge societal upheavels in our lifetime, possibly with a breakdown or partial breakdown of government. Were nearly at tipping point, it just needs a shove, perhaps a North Korean EMP, Coronal Mass Ejection event, a massively wet year of flooding, the prophesised Maunder Minimum II from 2030, something sufficiently large and disruptive.

all this (possibly OT) talk of human evolution... maybe we've halted our own evolution because we're so adept at altering our environment to suit our needs.
Unlikely. Evolution adapts to environment, prey and predators. Human evolution will continue to adapt to how society changes. Fir example more and more take on less physical work and more mental. The need to retain knowledge is replaced by the ability to access it. All moot however as society won’t last long enough to see real changes which typically take hundreds of generations.

They reckon it’ll only take 500-800 years and there’d be no trace of us if we’re wiped out.

I find this hard to imagine. Today we have evidence of man’s activity dating back tens of thousands of years - the oldest cave paintings are 40,000 years old. Might not be many iPhones to be found but I suspect there will be plenty of evidence of our activity for future “peoples” to investigate.

I mean anything visible. If you dig down you’ll find evidence.
