I like watching other cyclists race, especially near the university where the fixie bummer brigade regard the 1 mile run from uni to their rat infested bedsits something worth beating people at:tongue:

My commute is 2.9 miles, with a climb of 36ft
12 miles each way with 800ft on the way in and 750ft on the way home- I see it as my training!

In general it's hard work, and no cyclists around for the first couple of hours, so bimble.

Ashamed to say that once on the busway with a blinky in the distance, I have to chase it down.

Evening commutes are a different matter, they seem to demand more effort.

You need to have a few days rest, every time I log a couple of hours on the Giro Challenge, you seem to have done five, you must be cream crackered, go on, go to bed for a few days, you deserve it.

You need to add another category..."Hands-free".
I'm doing massively long stretches hands-free at the moment, even doing cornering with deft arse-shifting in the saddle.

I don't bimble because it would take forever but then I don't go max effort until fall off the bike when I get to work, probably maintain about 70-75% effort all the way. Enough to know I've done some good exercise but not too much that I'm spent for the rest of the day.

Since my ride is only 5.5 miles or there abouts I have taken to doing it full tilt. Never before did I use to get out of the saddle on climbs but now I love it, my average over this distance has jumped by 2mph and I'm doing the same time for 5.5 miles as I used to for 4.5 miles on the good days.

I have my little race targets so often leave my house as the bus is outside and beat it to work 9/10, so far not been overtaken by another cyclist and love flying past any that I see on the road. By the end of the week however I'll be hanging up the SPD's and going back to running to work to train for my marathon, even running I've managed to scalp a dawdler

Same here, if i pushed 100% for 12 miles I'd never manage to walk up the 4 flights of stairs to the office.
Plus once I hit central London it becomes extremely dangerous to go fast.

Hardly ever go flat out, when I have done it makes Thursday/Friday a bit painful. By Friday I don't really fancy it. I tick along at a fair pace most days.

I've never ridden to/from work flat out, although i have ridden certain sections flat out. Too much stop start and I need to pace myself for the amount of miles i do.
