It’s no wonder the cycling industry’s sales are dropping when prices are rising to ludicrous levels.

From £245 for a Pashley despatch bag to £300 for a Rapha men’s classic jersey, has the cycling industry lost its marbles?

If you remove the cycling association and view it as a handmade leather satchel/bag then it is actually not hideously expensive compared to a luxury brand like Dunhill or Bill Amberg. You'd be talking £500-600 for those, if you stepped up to uber luxury like Tanner Krolle then £2000+ would be the mark. Don't get me wrong, the Pashley is still ridiculously priced, just not as much as some!

Price is determined by what the market will bear.

Clearly, Pashley marketing think there are enough people/mugs* willing to pay that price. Things will go one of two ways:

1. Pashley are right, and, they will make some money

2. Pashley are wrong, they will have to discount the price, or, in. extremis, abandon the product

That is how it works.

In the meantime, Temu will come out with a similar looking product for 50p 😂

One wouldn't mind if the workmanship and materials reflected the price.

Sadly simply adding the name "Pashley" to a product of average quality more than doubles its value.
