I stayed in Gueret while on a weeks tour through the Creuse. Lovely area with many lumps!

I'm on the Creuse borders, the dept's around 10 or 15km south of me, and the river passes around 5km away. Dept Creuse is my playground really, both picturesque and indeed lumpy No long alpine climbs, mainly continual ups and downs through valleys etc. I went for a ride with the club on Friday, up to a place called St Gaussaud (I think it might be in the Haute-Vienne rather than the Cruese but anyway). That's around 600 - 650m and probably the nearest thng we have to a long climb around here. There's a couple of others similar but they're not the norm. There's actually some nasty little short sharp climbs too, just like being back in the UK!

If I go north, I have the pan flat roads north of Châteauroux to Bourges. Not really my thing, especially in the heat of the day, but it has its own beauty.

I know Gueret. A couple of good motorcycle shops there. There is a bike shop there too (an LBS type I mean) and he seems pretty good. I managed to pick up a pair of Look Delta-type pedals there, which I was really chuffed about. You only seem to be able to get Keo these days. I'm wibbling....
