I do miss it though. There are a lot of runners/joggers round here andnI am a mite envious as they go by.

Getting older sucks.
I spent a lot of time over the past couple of weeks cycling up and down lanes near Exeter and also on the Exe Estuary Trail. There were lots of cyclists about, and also hundreds of runners. I thought how great it would be to go running round there.

I think my running days are probably over though. I might try running on the grass in the local park to see if my body can take a more gentle pounding.

60 last month and after riding 50 miles yesterday and 67 today of which 60% was offroad in the peak district currently feeling 70. Will be doing again soon as well. Age is but a number.

not sure if I have said this - memory is not what it was

but I used to walk to work on nice days
that was my last job and it was about a 20 minute walk

only lasted a couple of weeks and my knee and foot decided they were not happy about that and I ended up walking witha stick for about a month

which is why I started cycling again - low impact and the knee bends less so it doesn;t complain

Also my foot in my shoe tend to get pushed forward on the pedal stroke = and when walking it goes back in the shoe

and I have a weird boney lump on the back of one foot which gets inflamed if I rub it too much
again - resulting in walking with a stick

so I can manage an occasional walk
but if I do it too much or with much weight then it just fails

I learnt how unavoidable that was at a Radio One Roadshow many years ago

my daughter wanted to go on my shoulder so she could see Justin Bieber better
(yes - I know - parents can only do so much - but she did also like Guns and Roses!!)

when she jumped onto my shoulder my left knee just failed and I nearly dropped her - and if I couldn;t even stop that then it showed it was not pain it was just a structural failure

I miss cycling! My three bikes are collecting dust after over 5 years of just sitting there! 🙄 When out driving if I see a cyclist that reminds me of my time on the road I give them a wave, probably with them thinking who the feck was that I wonder, or maybe not even noticing! 😏 Mind you, I wave at scooterists on proper ones like old Lambrettas and Vespas, which reminds me of my youth. Again, they probably think who the feck was that I wonder!😉

I'll be 65 in November. Once of a day that would've been my becoming an OAP time, but I now have to wait till February 2027 for that! :ninja:

I get mine next March

Looking forward to the re-imbersement of the tax I paid for all those years!

a year late but better late than never!

With the moving back of the OAP date I was worried that I might get mine before my wife
(she is younger than me

by a whole 13 days!)

but it turns out that we get it in the same year

apparently we have to apply for it a few months in advance - which will be around Christmas

You can apply within three months of your state pension age. Prior to that the DWP should have written to you with an "invitation code." If you don't receive the code you should request one once you're inside the three month window.

Check your record and buy any missing stamps to fill the gaps and make the min for the max.

Indeed, you will get a letter from DWP inviting you to apply. You will get a code to use if you want to apply online, or send the form back to them.

My code didn’t work for some reason, but a quick phone call and I got a helpful lady that sorted it out after just a few questions. Told me exactly how much I would get and what day it would be paid and then confirmed it by email and a follow up letter.

Yes, extremely helpful. We wanted to buy my wife's missing years - I know that doesn't suit all - and the guy we spoke to couldn't have been more helpful or patient.
