I've tweaked my bike a little recently, fitted some clip pedals*, and moved the basket from the handlebars (where it didn't fit), to the rack (got tired of coming back to my panniers to find all the pockets zipped open)

Strangely, motorists have been giving me a lot more room when overtaking.
It's on the right hand side though, sticking out into traffic no more than my elbow, but it's so far warded off stupidly close overtakes that seemed to be part of my daily ride.

It seems I have found the answer, put something on your bike that has the potential to scratch paintwork, and is highly visible as such.

Safe riding...

*also experienced a marked increase in both average and top speed with my new pedals, got a whole 5mph faster on one stretch without any real extra effort, (34mph vs 29mph top speed, 29 being top speed with lots of effort, I was doing 34 and felt like I could have pushed it up a notch)

Yup, amazing isn't it! Riding a recumbent has the same effect, as does carrying an ice hockey stick whilst skating.

ahh, but attaching a basket to the offside of your bike is perfectly legal, and not directly aggressive.
