Just bought a laptop with Vista, having just used XP for yonks and not looking at Vista why is everyone on a downer with it ?

Is it just the lack of support for 3rd part products ?

Partly - my scanner for one. But also, (and I can only talk from personal experience of running both OS's) I expected Vista to give me an improvement on Xp and instead got something that ran slower - I have 3gb of memory - with more interruptions, more nagging and nannying, more background disk activity than I'd ever seen before... the list went on until after giving it several months, I realised I just didn't like it, so I finally gave up trying and went back to Xp.

I'm hoping Windows 7, due out next month and that I've seen through RC1, will be the OS that Vista should have been but wasn't.

Agreed BoT. Win 7 appears to cater for the lesser specced machines too, so great for laptops etc.

Vista? not had a problem with it, most problems seem to stem from trying to upgrade to Vista from XP. I've always gone for the clean install method. May take a little more work but comes out with a much nicer install.

I have no doubt there are people happy to put up with 'the Vista experience' - I'm not one of them!

Can't be any worse than Windows ME.

I tried Vista but apart from it being bloated I found half my programs wouldn't work.

So I went back to XP.

Why fix something which aint broke?
