Someone told me the other day that this flowerpot trick dates back to the Middle Ages - there's a record in early Tudor times of an apprentice boy doing it. 8p per day, you win!

It's bound to have been around for ages, but looks like it could be rather effective.. although somewhat hazardous if one has little folks in the house !

I did something like that when I discovered mildew growing on the clothes in my cupboard in my bedsit. I set a 40w bulb on a brick, under an old coffee tin painted black inside with holes punched in the bottom. It was very effective at keeping my clothes warm and dry.

They'd only have to touch it once...!

You can make a fridge out of flowerpots too, called a zeer - if you don't have a sunny patch to put it in, you can put it in a windy spot and the effect is similar: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pot-in-pot_refrigerator
