My oldest is four and half now and she has been riding a pedal bike for 6 months now. We recently went out for a 6km ride together and she regularly rides about 3km a week. she started off on a balance bike at just over two years old and we bought her, her first pedal bike, earlier this year. She wasn't keen to try it for months and we just left her to choose the right moment. Then one day she just got
on it and started pedalling, the grin on her face was wonderful.

My youngest has been riding his balance bike since 1 and a half years old. He started off wobbly and took a while to get used to it, but like my daughter we just left him to figure it out. Also like my daughter he has had a couple of spills after barrelling down hills way too fast, but after a quick cry he's dusted himself down and got back on with it, and gained a heightened sense of slowing down for the really steep bits. I suspect he'll be on a pedal bike within the year, but like with my daughter we'll just leave him to choose the right moment.

My youngest on his way to kindergarten on his sisters old bike.
